HOW TO DRESS!

We often talk about the fact that our waders are different — like no other waders on the market. This is true, and it also applies to how you should dress in order to stay dry, warm, and comfortable. If you follow our recommendations below, you’ll get the best possible experience from your LOC Waders.

ON YOUR LOWER BODY

With ordinary breathable waders, you normally dress in layers of thick insulating undergarments (long johns, thick bibs, etc.) to stay warm and comfortable. This is NOT how you should dress in your LOC Waders! If you do, you will simply become too warm and your LOC waders won´t fit as intended.

Therefore — and we can’t stress this enough — it is important to dress as lightly as possible inside your LOC Waders. This is because the patented 3-D Mesh Tech System inside the wader already provides the insulation and warmth needed.

For this reason, you should wear only a thin base layer (we personally use the thinnest Merino wool long johns*), regardless of the temperature on land or in the water.

* NOTE! We are all different, and how you need to dress in order to stay warm and comfortable is highly personal. This applies to all outdoor activities. However, if you follow our recommendations above, you’ll have an excellent starting point for adapting to your own specific needs.

UNDERWEAR

We strongly recommend using Merino wool underwear (or no underwear at all) underneath your Merino wool long johns. Avoid cotton-based underwear, as it tends to become sweaty and uncomfortable over time.

ON YOUR FEET

Again, this is important to understand. The neoprene feet on our waders are different from what you may be used to. When developing our waders, strength and durability were our top priorities. That is why we chose to use high-quality pre-compressed neoprene in the feet.

This type of neoprene is stronger and more durable than the ordinary 5–6 mm neoprene commonly used in other waders. However, while pre-compressed neoprene increases strength and durability, it does sacrifice some insulation properties. To avoid getting cold feet, you therefore need to adapt how you dress in order to stay warm and comfortable.

The best starting point is to use wool socks, as this is by far the best material we have tested. From there, simply adapt by using the layer-on-layer principle. Start with a thinner wool sock (a liner) for moisture transport, then add a thicker wool sock for warmth.

Some of our customers use two thick wool socks, while others use a thin second neoprene sock over ours. In our experience, this does not add as much warmth as layering wool socks on the inside. However, dressing for comfort is personal, so if this setup works for you, then that is how you should dress.

IMPORTANT! We recommend that the wool socks you use should end a centimeter or so above the gravel guard on your LOC Waders. If they are longer, they may extend too far into the 3-D Mesh area, increasing the risk of becoming too warm and sweaty.

NOTE: UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU USE COTTON SOCKS, AS THEY ABSORB MOISTURE AND WILL MAKE YOU BOTH WET AND COLD!!!
